British Council, Sokoto Govt Partner on Education

‎Sokoto state government is partnering with t‎he British Council in order to ‎expand areas of cooperation on education for the mutual benefit of the people of the state.‎

Governor Aminu Tambuwal spoke in Sokoto on Wednesday during a breakfast meeting with the ‎Head of the Council, Sir Ciaron Devane where he emphasised that his administration’s commitment to education remained firm.

“This government, as well as religious and traditional institutions in the state, have made education a topmost priority and we will ensure that every child gets access to quality education,” he said.

Tambuwal however said that in spite of the efforts of the state government, help was needed from all stakeholders to enable it achieve its set objectives.


Devane in his remarks said that Sokoto state government and the British Council would collaborate closely in the areas of school leadership, higher and basic education and teacher development.

Commending Tambuwal for his foresight in prioritising education, which investment would pay important dividend in the future, Devane added ‎that British Council had experience of working in 115 countries, and that the Council had “a lot to offer Sokoto state and Nigeria.”

He said the British Council has been involved with Nigeria since 1943, and will continue to work with all stakeholders to develop education in Nigeria.‎
