Sokoto Sets Up Committee To Investigate Fire Incidents

Sokoto State Government has set up a 14-man committee to investigate the recent fire incident that took place at tuber and tomato markets, which were gutted by fire in Sokoto.

Membership of the include the Commissioner of Home Affairs, Alhaji Isa Achida, who is the chairman of the committee and Alhaji Bello Sodangi, Director of Administration of Sokoto central market,  Alhaji Bello Sodanfi, who will serve as Secretary.

Other members were drawn from the Nigeria Police, Department of State Security, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corp and the Sultanate Council.

Achida said during his first visit to the market on Monday that the committee would investigate the remote and immediate causes of the fire incident.

“It will also find out the extent of damages as a result of the inferno as well as suggest ways of preventing future recurrence. It will also make recommendations for government’s possible assistance to the victims,” he said.

It would be recalled that the fire incident,  which occurred on January 21, destroyed hundreds of shops, vehicles and food items worth hundreds of millions of naira.
