Following security threats by Boko Haram that the dreaded insurgency group intends to attack school, the Federal Ministry of Education (FME) has alerted all federal schools across the country to be on the alert.‎

In Sokoto, the Principal of Federal Science College Sokoto, Mrs. ‎Phoebe Shekarau told Newsdiaryonline that measures have been put in place to ensure security of the students of the College.

“Since we received the alert from the Ministry, we have taken measures with cooperation from security agencies, especially the Police to ensure that our students are safe,” she said.

She said that the major problem was that the school ‎still had no fence at some parts, “which has made it easy for neighbouring communities to encroach.”

Newsdiaryonline investigations reveal that , for four years now, the school has partially been without fence.

The Principal of Federal Government College (FGC), ‎Lawal Malikawa also told Newsdiaryonline that security had been tightened in the school in collaboration with the Police.

‎”Also, Day students, who are through with their exams have been asked to stay back at home. This is to, in the mean time, decongest the school. Only boarding students, who will depart for holidays on Thursday, are in school now.

‎The insurgent group have been reported to be making plans to  attack schools in order to attract international attention‎‎.
