Macheal Okpara University of Agriculture (MOUA) Umudike: A symbol of basterdized University academic culture

Gentlemen of the press,

MOUA today, represents a public institution where impunity, recklessness and lawlessness are the order of the day. This is because the current Vice-Chancellor (VC), Professor Hillary O. For the 2014/2015 admission exercise, the VC instructed that all new students in the University must buy a bed space at the rate of N60; 800:00 which he deliberately refused to refund those who could not get the accommodation.

The Vice-Chancellor, in flagrant violation of the University laws compelled prospective applicants seeking job with the to pay a non refundable application fees of N 3800: 00, a practice that is alien to the University system.

The Vice-Chancellor approved and supported that are not approved by the NUC, in spite of several warning by stakeholders. Example of such programmes is Human Resources Management programme, where his wife was trained up to M. Sc level.

Gentlemen of the press

It is good to know that the key requirements for promotion to the rank of a professor in MOUA are having a Ph.D in relevant field plus 12 years post qualification experience. This is to show that all the above 30 Professors were appointed in clear violation of the University laws which potent a very serious danger to the academic culture and intellectual development of MOUA as a public University.

It is of course worth noting that all these atrocities are facilitated by the complicit behavior of the University governing council headed by Professor Anya O. Anya who could not control the reckless violation of the laws of the University. This has necessitated the need for the visitor of the University, the President of Nigeria to urgently intervene in order to forestall further destruction of the academic and moral culture of the University by way of sending an investigative panel to the Univesity with the view of taking appropriate action thereafter.

Thank you for your attention
