The Sokoto, Kebbi and Zamfara Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has repositioned its operational strategies by making the operations of smugglers operating within the Area Command difficult.
Speaking exclusively with Newsdiaryonline Monday evening, the Customs Area Comptroller (CAC), Alhaji Muhammadu Kankara said that all identified smuggling routes through which smugglers import goods, had been blocked.
“What we have done is identify smuggling routes and then blocking them. This resulted in the Command raking in N90 million in twenty days,” he said.
Kankara warned that smugglers who were not ready to comply with the requirements of importing goods through the borders, would soon be put out of business.
“We are determined to enforce all laws relating to importation of goods into this country. Those in the business of importation must either comply with the rules or seek other avenues. Sokoto must be free from all types of smuggling activities,” the Comptroller said.
He expressed the Command’s preparedness to work with traditional leaders and other citizens to continue to block all routes, which smugglers use to import contraband goods.
