The Sokoto State Command of the Department of Security Service (DSS) on Monday paraded an 18-year old kidnapper, Idris Umar who, along with Mu’azu hassan (now at large), kidnapped an eight-year Abdul-Azeez Abubakar.
According to the Assistant Director (Security), Mr. Francis Okpo, who briefed news men on behalf the State Director of the Service, Tijjani Kaffa, the duo kidnapped master Abubakar on August 14, 2015 from Arkilla of Wamakko local government of Sokoto state to Minanata area of Sokoto South local government area where he was kept hostage.
Kaffa disclosed that the victim was released the following day on August 15th “after the payment of N300,000 as ransom by the father, Alhaji Abubakar.”
He explained that the case was reported to the Command only after the ransom had been paid and “prompt investigation was initiated with a view to arresting the suspects.
“Consequently, Idris Umar (king pin) was arrested on September 11, 2015 while adequate security measures have been put in place to arrest the remaining accomplice.”
The Service called on the general public to be more security conscious and at alert “as the trend of kidnapping is becoming more alarming in the state.
“Parents are particularly advised to monitor and safeguard their children to avoid them being victims,” Kaffa stated stressing that the Command would not relent in its efforts in addressing security challenges in liaison with other security agencies in the state.
While appealing to all members of the communities to report all suspicious activities in their domains, Kaffa added that “the Command will deal ruthlessly with identified criminal minds within the tenet of the law.”
