2015: I’m still consulting – Tambuwal
By Abdallah el-Kurebe
As agitation by supporters and insinuation by the public on the Speaker of the House of Reps, Aminu Tambuwal’s probable defection to the APC and his aspiration to contest presidency or governorship grow, he says he is still consulting with his primary constituency on both.
Tambuwal disclosed this in his hometown on Sunday, when he addressed news men shortly after collecting his Permanent Voters’ Card (PVC).
“I am still consulting my primary constituency on these crucial matters that affect me. I will come back and engage my people and then make my final stand on the issues known to Nigerians at the most appropriate time. All politics is local,” he declared.
The Speaker expressed happiness with the peaceful and successful conduct of the distribution of permanent voter card exercise by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Commending INEC for managing elections in the face of inadequate power supply and ICT infrastructure, he also expressed happiness for obtaining his PVC.
“I feel happy as a patriotic citizen of Nigeria to have collected my card today and all Nigerians must diligently exercise their civic duties.
Stressing that the National Assembly had put the Commission on a first-line charge to make it financially independent,
Tambuwal challenged INEC to “exert her independence in action and not only on paper.”
He explained that such independence was meant to be real and actual in order to improve its performance.
The Speaker further said that the final report of the just-concluded National Conference, the Speaker stated that it would be subjected to due legislative process.
On the country’s leadership, “Nigeria deserves better leadership and the nation’s leaders, as well as other Nigerians must work to defend the hard-earned democracy in the country.”
